Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition on January 17th for $39.99

How many versions of the same game can you push to market, you ask? Well, if you’re Polyphony Digital (makers of the Gran Turismo series) the answer to that question is: quite a few.
Already we’ve seen Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and the official Gran Turismo 5 hit the market. However, as if that wasn’t enough, it’s just been made official that Gran Turismo 5 XL will too be hitting United States shelves. Priced at $39.99, Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition will feature the original game we’ve all come to know and love but will also come pre-equipped with all of the features provided by the developers as downloadable game updates.
Probably best of all, the game will also come with a coupon for $20 worth of GT5 DLC content. This alone pretty much makes this worth it as the game itself is still selling for around $30 pre-owned.
In terms of a release date, we’ve been told to expect Gran Turismo 5 XL on January 17th for, again, $39.99.

THQ & Obsidian Team Up For South Park RPG

When it comes to RPGs, Bethesda’s recently released The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been stealing much of the lime light. In fact, the game has received such critical acclaim that notoriously strict Japanese video game magazine Famitsu gave the game a perfect 40/40 review. But, what if you are looking for something a bit less serious and a lot more expletive.
Well, my friend, it sounds like the forthcoming South Park RPG is something that’s right up your alley. That’s right, it was recently made known that both THQ and Obsidian will be teaming up to release South Park: The Game. Before you start screaming blasphemy make note that South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will be on board writing the game’s script, providing voice overs and, hopefully, making sure the game doesn’t suck.
As of now we don’t know much in regards to the game. What we do know says that the game is set to be a “full-scale RPG”, that it will be available on the PS3 and Xbox 60 and that gamers will take control of a new South Park character to defend the town from various threats. If you want to get some early information on the game your best bet would be to pick up the January issue of Game Informer where South Park: The Game will be officially unveiled.

Germany Bans Dead Island

What can be said about Dead Island? How about the fact that it’s been regarded as one of the best zombie games of all time or the fact that it kicks ass just about every way you look at it? However, ass kicking aside, with any zombie game comes a lot of blood which, in my opinion (and hopefully yours too) only adds to the awesomeness. Dead Island, for example, can get so gruesome that the gore level will have even the manliest of 6 year olds crying for their mommys. But at the end of the day Dead Island is just a video game meaning, in theory, it should be hard to get too offended by it.
The memo sent to Germany seems to have either gotten lost or disregarded entirely as news has just broke that the country’s government has decided to ban Dead Island thus making it illegal to possess. Yell all you want but this is hardly a surprise. Germany is quite notorious for their strict regulations regarding video games and given the amount of gore, violence and down right awesomeness packed into Dead Island it was pretty much a given that it wouldn’t make it through. In fact, both Techland and Deep Silver were anticipating the ban so readily that they didn’t even bother to distribute Dead Island to the country.
But there is a bright side to the matter. If you’re currently residing in Germany do somehow manage to get your hands on the game you’ll be able to play the game and break the law at the same time. Talk about the coolest kid on the block.
Disclaimer: Gamequack does not condone unlawful behavior even if said behavior involves breaking a law that is ridiculous enough to ban a video game. Thank you and have a nice day.

Download Skyrim eBooks

Bethesda has been known to make some massive games that fall into their Elder Scrolls line up. Starting with Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls series has gone on to include Morrowind, Oblivion and now, Skyrim.
Hitting the market for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 11th of this year, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has become critically acclaimed being applauded for its expansive story line, massive environment and open ended gameplay. In fact, Skyrim’s lore is so in depth that scattered around the world are various books that give player’s a deeper look at the story. While it may be up your alley to painstakingly seek out each and every book, those who want to bypass the trouble yet still get clued it on the lore are in luck.
The fine folks over at Capane.us have taken the time to extract each book from the PC version of Skyrim and repackage them as eBooks. Available for download are both ePub and Mobi versions so you shouldn’t have a problem reading them on anything from a computer to a dedicated eBook reader. Of course, we’re going to go out on a limb and assume that you already own Skyrim because not owning the game and downloading these files is technically illegal.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hits #1 on Japanese Sales Charts

Call of Duty is without a doubt the most popular FPS franchise on the market today. This is proven by the fact that everytime a new addition is released records are broken and boatloads of cash are made. However, if you’re a CoD devotee you may think that only the Western world is into the game. But, if you were to think such a thing you would be terribley wrong.
The reason we say this is because it was just made known taht MW3 has topped the Japanese sales charts. That’s right, a game that doesn’t involve fighting or role playing elements is now on top of the Japanese sales charts. If anything, this further proves the fact that Call of Duty has become a behemoth that will be hard to topple.
Then again, if MW4 is anything like MW3 (which, in turn, is exactly like MW2) we may have a problem.
