3.5 million Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo downloads

Have you downloaded the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo yet? If not, you should because it kicks ass and ends on the 25th of this month. But regardless of that the game’s developers have recently let us know that downloads for the demo have surpassed 3.5 million. A pretty amazing feat considering games like Modern Warfare 2 and MAG have been stealing the spotlight as of late.

Final Fantasy VII remake is unlikely

Being one of the most popular games in the series, many have wondered if we will ever see a Final Fantasy VII remake. The question has been taken to Square Enix several times to which they have replied; probably not.
Well, the question has once again arose, this time taken straight to Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase, who replied:
“If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare aFinal Fantasy VII remake within a year, we’d very much like a go at it. But even Final Fantasy XIII has taken over three and a half years to create. If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we’d imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together. So it’s looking pretty unrealistic.”
So folks, no FFVII remake, you can stop asking now.

Starcraft 2 beta keys surpass $300 on eBay
If you’re a diehard Starcraft 2 fan you probably already know that Blizzard has recently released the official beta to those who managed to secure a key. However, just being a fan won’t net you a key as Blizzard only sent them out to a certain number of people.
Of course, those who were lucky enough to get a key (other than playing the game) have taken them to eBay and other online auction sites. What was given to them for free is actually being auctioned off for upwards of $300.
So, if you’re not willing to wait a few month until Starcraft 2‘s expected release date you can always hop on eBay and slap down a few benjamins to get access to a limited version of the game. In other words, don’t be dumb, save your money for the Limited Edition of the game if you’re really a fan.
Check out some of the auctions here.

Analyst: Project Natal to cost $50

With the seemingly advanced technology featured in Project Natal, many have assumed it to be a high priced device. However, industry analyst Michael Pachter has recently let us know that he thinks Natal will cost just $50 when it ships later this year.
News comes his Pach-Attack show over at GameTrailers where he states the fact that Microsoft isn’t trying to make any money off of Natal but will instead try to get everyone to use it. Because, once everyone has it Microsoft will be able to shower us with all sorts of software that they will then make money on.
Unfortunately, Michael Pachter has no affiliation with Microsoft so we’ll have to wait until official word is given before we pass final judgement.
Check out the episode of Pach-Attack that we mentioned above after the break.

Starcraft 2 closed beta this month
As every day comes to an end, Starcraft II‘s release date draws nearer. Need some proof? During a recent earnings call, Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime confirmed that a closed beta for Starcraft II will go live later this month.
Additionally, Morhaime let us know that the game is currently on track for a mid-2010 release. That’s if it doesn’t get delayed, of course.
Unfortunately, there was no word on when (if ever) an open Starcraft II beta would be made available.

Nintendo orders New Super Mario Bros. Wii pirate to pay $1.3 million

Have you recently though about pirating a game and sharing it with the internet? If so, you better think twice before you end up like 24-year-old James Burt.
Burt apparently thought it would be a good idea to upload New Super Mario Bros. Wii on November 6th, 2009, 6 days ahead of its scheduled November 12th release. Well, after Nintendo got wind of this they tracked down Mr. Burt and slapped him with a hefty lawsuit.
The outcome? $1.3 million including $100,000 worth of Nintendo’s legal fees. Bummer.

Call of Duty 7 due this holiday season

Modern Warfare 2 only just hit store shelves on November 10th of last year but that hasn’t stopped Activision and Treyarch from moving onto the next Call of Duty title. In fact, Activision’s Mike Griffith has recently released the following statement:
“… this holiday, as we eluded earlier, we plan to release a new Call of Duty game. We expect that the global Call of Duty user base will continue to grow driven by expected high attach rates, and news sales of hardware, and new downloadable map packs which should continue to keep current players engaged while attracting new consumers to the brand.”
There have been no details about what exactly CoD 7 will be like but rumors have been floating around the internet that it will be based during the Vietnam war. Let’s just hope they include some form of Nazi Zombies in it.
